Our Work
The Icon Project
Praying for persecuted Christians around the world
Through the icon of ‘Mary, Mother of the Persecuted,’ written in Aramaic, the language of Jesus at the top of the icon, shrines are established where all can pray for those suffering persecution for their faith.
About the Icon Project
A global prayer initiative for persecuted Christians
At the heart of Nasarean’s mission is prayer for our persecuted brethren throughout the world. Without that focus, we are just another NGO.
Believers are called to echo the commitment described in the Acts of the Apostles, where the Church prayed “constantly” when St. Peter was imprisoned.
The Icon Project is a response to that call to constant prayer.
The Icon & Its Mission
Mary, Mother of Persecuted Christians
Using an icon of the Blessed Virgin, Nasarean has been establishing shrines around the world since 2018.
These shrines serve as places of prayer and pilgrimage where the faithful can pray for Christians suffering persecution.
Each shrine is installed with the blessing and support of the local Bishop, and we hope to establish more across the United States and Europe in the coming years.

A Mass Composed for Persecuted Christians
The Mass for Persecuted Christians was composed by renowned Catholic composer Paul Jernberg and premiered at the blessing of the Shrine for Persecuted Christians by Bishop Robert McManus in Clinton, Massachusetts on October 21, 2022.
It is the first Mass ever composed specifically to pray for persecuted Christians.
With beautiful melodies and an Eastern character, the work reflects the spiritual heritage of the persecuted Church. We hope this Mass will be sung not only at future shrine blessings, but also in parishes and cathedrals around the world.
