Our Egypt projects

Meet Dr. Adel who helps the nuns in the Salaam Center, serving Christians in the poorest district of Cairo.  He offers himself to serve in any capacity needed.  He is a great friend doing incredibly important work for the poor. You'll see more from him in the next few weeks.

Our projects: At the moment, we are supporting a number of projects, to employ people and give them hope for the future. In the slum district of Cairo, where the rubbish collectors or ‘zabbaleen’ live – more than a million people, the majority being Christian, families are born, live and die in the midst of the garbage. Even in this intense poverty, the Church is educating and helping, and we are providing a number of employment opportunities, including a woodworking shop, supported by Giving Tuesday 2024, and a sewing project, employing eleven women.

We also have several projects around the city of Alexandria, in small, poor villages. These include another two wood-working shops, and a plastic bag facility, all employing and training many Christians. One village in particular is suffering considerable ant-Christian harassment from the Muslim majority, with a police presence permanently outside their facility to protect them from attack. They have also been denied permission to build a Church for many years, which is quite a common example of the kind of discrimination that Christians suffer.

Over the next weeks, you will receive news and reports about the visit of Fr. Ben to these communities, and the tremendous difference your donations are making to start businesses and keep these Christians in their ancient homeland.  We hope, with your support, to start several more projects over the next year in Egypt, including supporting businesses helping employ women. Keep watch for the latest news reports over the next weeks!
