As we begin the journey of Lent, one very good examination of conscience could be on our use of words. When we know little, said TS Eliot, we usually substitute emotion for thought. Sometimes, though, we need to hear the encouraging words of Scripture, like those of St. Paul, telling us to be “steadfast” and to never give up: words we need to hear in troubling times.
