For all the saints, the encounter with Jesus moved from a personal experience of faith in Him, into a life changing experience. When faith remains personal it appears more like a hobby than the faith of the apostles. In the encyclical ‘Lumen Fidei’ the Pope explicitly states: “faith is not a private matter…or a personal opinion.” The challenge in contemporary society is to make that faith a sign of hope and a witness to the truth - even to the point of martyrdom.
